Installing .DLL Files On Your Computer

From time to time, you may need help installing .dll files on your computer. These important components come with your operating system’s installation as well as any new download of different software and applications. Before you proceed however, it would be a good idea to get some background on these important files.

The .dll extension simply stands for dynamic link library. Within its code are important lines that tell the system how a program needs to run. While it would work just as well to have these codes programmed into the software itself, it can be time consuming and take up extra space. Instead, common routines are written into the dlls to save time. Different programs can then access these dlls for specific functions.

Problems with these files happen when someone deletes them, or the system removes them from their folder. User can tell when this happens because they receive an error message when opening up certain programs that require those dlls.

The most important dll files will be located in the system’s folder. The folder may be hidden or access may be restricted so only administrators can get to them. If you are unable to access this folder, you can find a list of the most important dlls online.

Problems can also occur when you download unknown files that are disguised as dll files. These may actually be viruses that infiltrate your computer, corrupting certain programs. If this happens, perform a system scan with your antivirus software immediately. You may have to restart your computer to get rid of the viruses.

When you download the missing components online, make sure to read the instructions that come along with them. Don’t delete or remove any other files for the moment. Installing .dll files on your computer will only take a few minutes. Your programs should be up and running in no time.

How To Fix A DLL Error

A system error is usual caused by a missing component or program. More often than not, these missing components are dll files which are important lines of code for your system. If you encounter a problem like this, it is best that you know how to fix a dll error in order to save your OS.

You will know that you have such an error if you find certain programs unable to run. At times, you may be able to run a program only to find that it crashes when you try to save, open or do some other function. Unfortunately, any work that you were unable to save before hand will be lost. You can see why this problem can be frustrating.

Thankfully, the system will notify you with an error message. It may say something about encountering an error with a specific dll. When this happens, list down the name of the dll for future reference. List down the name of the program as well.

Do a manual search of the missing file. If it is not inside the required system folder, it may have been saved elsewhere. You might find that it has been moved to another location. This can happen when installing new software. If your search does not yield any results, you may have to download these dll files online.

Be sure to follow all of the instructions when you download the files. Because of the nature of these dlls, a simple installation or copy may not yield the results that you need.

To avoid the same mistakes in the future, be extra careful when installing or uninstalling programs. While you will know how to fix a dll error now, it is much better to avoid the problem in the first place.
